Joint meeting of the Engineers Club and Society of Women Engineers
Speaker: Caitlin Moffitt, Barge Design Solutions
The Architecture, Construction, and Engineering (ACE) Mentor Program is an after school mentoring program where high school students have the opportunity to meet with architects, engineers, and builders to learn about careers in the design and construction industry. In the program, students gain experience in working on a real-world project and building professional networks. Locally, ACE operates through the Southeast Tennessee and North Georgia affiliate. This year, the local organization chose the redevelopment of the City Hall Annex at 100 E. 11th St. as the core project and explored its relationship in the emerging Innovation District. The students presented their work at ACE annual scholarship event held in February. At the conclusion of the program, eight teams from Chattanooga School for the Arts and Sciences, East Ridge High School, Howard High School, Lafayette High School, and other area schools (participating through open teams at EMJ Corporation and DH&W Architects) presented their design ideas. In addition, $15,000 in scholarships were awarded during the event to support students to pursuing A-C-E careers post-high school. ACE Alumni and local Board Member, Caitlin Moffitt (Civil Engineer at Barge Design), will give us an update of this year’s projects and participants. Caitlin will also tell us about an upcoming award event that supports the ACE Mentor Program, Building Recognition in Chattanooga (BRIC).
