CEC Tour of Brainerd High School "Future Ready" program
Host: Jeannette Tippett, Future Ready Institute Coach at Brainerd High School
Tour Description: As a follow up to our May 2018 program on HCDE’s Future Institute, we will tour Brainerd High School's Institute of Aviation. They also have an Institute of Entrepreneurship, an Institute of Law, a First Responder, and a Forensic Science offering.
The Institute of Aviation incorporates the career-technical education programs of study for aviation flight as well as maintenance and light repair. The curriculum includes learning the principles of flight, access to using a flight simulator, use of drones, engine work and repair, general maintenance, and larger problem solving regarding engine work. Students may want to learn to be a pilot or become certified to work as a mechanic, but there are many other distinct jobs within the aviation field such as counter work for an airline, handling baggage, security, hospitality on board airplanes, painting or upholstery work on aircraft.
Brainerd High School is very appreciative of their aviation classroom with flight simulator stations, the VW e-lab, a lab for health sciences, a criminal justice room, computer lab for business and marketing classes, a working shop/lab for cosmetology, and a working bistro for culinary arts. All made possible with support of industry and community partners.
