The University of Toledo and Oakridge National Laboratory are partnering to hold an upcoming virtual workshop on advanced tooling for lightweight automotive components to lead the transition to electric vehicle and mobility solutions in the US. This workshop is focused on identifying the industrial needs in the area of tooling, mold and dies.
As explained in the more detailed description attached, advanced manufacturing promises a paradigm shift that will expedite manufacturing of tooling which is essential for the future of the industrial manufacturing in the Toledo, and northwest Ohio region which has had a history of innovation in automotive manufacturing. The findings of this workshop will be essential to ensure the Toledo region and the US continue to be leaders in automotive manufacturing. The workshop report will serve as means of informing key stake holders of the manufacturing challenges and opportunities which, if addressed, will ensure US competitiveness.
Workshop topics:
Advance manufacturing technology for advanced automotive molds and dies
Innovation in materials and design for advanced molds and dies
Smart molds and dies (Industry 4.0) – implementation of Machine learning (ML) and Artificial Intelligence (AI)
Workforce Development through training and R&D
The workshop will take place virtually on March 11, 2021.
