    • 25 Nov 2019
    • 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM
    • Howard School, 2500 S Market St Chattanooga, TN 37408

This month's tour will be to the Architecture and Construction Institute at Howard School. The Architecture and Construction Institute is one of the Future Ready Institutes of Hamilton County. The goal of the Future Ready Institutes is to "offer a unique career themed based education through the smaller learning communities model."

The students of the Architecture and Construction Institute have created safety infographics about safety standards in the construction and architecture worksite. The tour will walk through the the VW eLab and the hallways where the infographics are posted.

There will be an opportunity (for those that want to and can do so time-wise) to judge the infographics based on a rubric presented and help pick the winners from both pathways.

Because it is a public school, you have to register and get a visitor's badge at the main entrance of Howard School. Be sure and have a valid ID.

Parking: There should be plenty of parking in the Howard School parking area. There's a stop light on Market, turn into the school and follow to the parking area.

Thank you to green|spaces Chattanooga for partnering with us again. This is the final program for 2019, so invite a guest to attend with you.

    Cornerstones - Preserving Historical Sites

Cornerstones, Chattanooga's only non-profit Historic Preservation Organization, exists to preserve the architectural heritage and urban fabric of Chattanooga. Cornerstones is a catalyst for promoting the importance of restoring the buildings of Chattanooga's past for today's uses, while bringing together the resources required to effect such change. Cornerstones works to conserve and bring new life to the historic buildings and streets of Chattanooga, making them relevant properties of the present.  The Cornerstone team seeks to enrich Chattanooga's visual and spatial identity, through the conscious conservation of those historic structures and public streets that are worthy of retention.

Our speaker will be Ann Gray, Executive Director of Cornerstone, with more than 30 years as a Professional Preservationist.  Under her leadership, Cornerstones has raised and invested over $8 million into saving downtown historic properties and has seen a return on this investment of approximately $32 million. She holds two undergraduate degrees:  History and Sociology and a Master degree in History with an emphasis in Historic Preservation.  She sits on the Tennessee Historical Commission Board of Design Review for National Register properties, Tennessee State Library & Archives Friends Board, and formerly served on the Tennessee Preservation Trust Board of Directors.

After the presentation, a small group may have an opportunity to walk over to the historical Chattanooga Choo Choo and see the marvelous dome space.

Lunch cost $10 - please register here to assure enough food.

    Meeting location - green|spaces (63 E Main Street, Chattanooga TN 37408)

PDH's cannot be awarded for this meeting.

Project Management: How Important Is It to You and Your Company?

Do you have projects every year that fall short of expectations with regards to scope, schedule, budget performance, or other metrics?

How often is rework performed because something wasn’t done right the first time?

How much of your day is spent reacting to issues?

Many people that experience these frustrations would comment that it is just a part of everyday business and that things always come up to change the project plan. This belief often stems from a lack of appreciation for project management fundamentals and a failure to understand what actions could drive your program up the project management maturity continuum. Project management, in general, is undervalued. No, it is not rocket science, but it does require a unique set of skills, and a frank assessment of the people that are being assigned the role of project manager.

The focus of this presentation is on why you should value project management. Benefits of a strong core of project managers will be discussed along with some tips and tools that even companies with mature project management programs will find valuable.

Presented By: Andrew Romanek, The Dextra Group Mr. Romanek specializes in environmental project management and program support. He is a member of The Dextra Group, whose primary clients are the business managers responsible for environmental program success and regulatory compliance within US‐based companies. Dextra’s strategic intent is to create measurable and sustainable value for these clients, bringing a competitive advantage to their environmental management activities.

venue and lunch information will be available by Jan 1, 2020
